No, Christmas hasn't come early this year... CYC is just excited to celebrate the dedication shown by one of our loyal donors: Xerox!
For more than 30 years, Xerox has invested time and funds to help CYC create a bright start in life for kids in our Head Start program.
Each year during the weeks leading up to Christmas, Kelli Morgan, a technology manager with Xerox, leads a team of Xerox employees in brightening up the holidays for the preschool children at CYC-Centro Nuestro, CYC-Fellowship House, and CYC-Rebecca K. Crown Youth Center.
Kelli and her team first collect the names of the kids at the Centers and then they create stockings with hats, gloves, and books for every child, funded by the Xerox Community Involvement Fund and employee donations. The team of do-gooders then visit the Centers dressed up as elves, while Kelli’s husband, who is also a Xerox employee, dresses up as Santa.
Kelli said that this is many of the local Xerox employees’ favorite volunteer event.
“It’s just part of being a good citizen,” Kelli said. “We should always give back to our communities. Our events are always about equity. Just to see the joy on the kids’ faces is a wonderful feeling – they know we’re the Xerox Santa.”
Kelli said that part of why they focus on the 3-5 year-old children is to help give them the right start in life. Additionally, she has seen employees stay in touch with the kids they form connections with during the event.
“Children are the next generation,” she said. “How can we shape them to help them be the best people they can be? If the children see some people doing good, and trying to help out, that is a good experience for them.”
Xerox is also a Benefactor Sponsor during this year’s Believe in Kids Dinner: Igniting the Spark. Their support of the event goes benefits Chicago Youth Centers’ general operating budget to help maintain each of our Centers and innovative programming.
CYC is so grateful to supporters like Xerox who continue to make our Centers the place where possibility lives.
